"The Breakup"

Pictured: chicmuse in 3.1 Phillip Lim Pre-Fall/12  "The Breakup" sweater and pants

I've always thought fashion and art go hand in hand, but Phillip Lim's Pre-Fall collection is taking the notion to another level by incorporating Roy Lichtenstein's pop art onto his pieces. #OBSESSED
 Great idea, Phill!!

Willem de Kooning

Sitting Woman - c. 1940

This weekend I'll be going to the MoMA to check out the de Kooning: A Retrospective exhibition which follows Willem de Kooning's works throughout his career and I absolutely can't wait!  For those of you who won't make it to New York before January 9, 2012 when the exhibition ends, I chose some of my favorite works from the MoMA site for your viewing pleasure.

The following are various depictions of women by the artist between the 1940's-1960's.  I love this sort of exhibit because it allows you to get a full gauge of the individual's evolution as a person and an artist.  As de Kooning matures artistically, his art becomes more and more abstract and his use of brush strokes and paint is more expressive.  I could go on and on trying to analyze but I'll let you take a look for yourself! And if you want to see more (as there are lot's of great pieces) check out the MoMA exhibition site.

LOUIS VUITTON: THE ART OF FASHION

"LOUIS VUITTON: THE ART OF FASHION" exhibit opens just in time for the start of Milan's Fashion week! Curated by Katie Grand, the exhibit will run until October 9 at Milan's La Triennale design museum.  The "Speedy" heads and playful mix of iconic LV fashion is awesome! A proper tribute to Marc Jacobs' whimsical designs and immense talent.

"Rise & Fall of a Phoenix"

These beautiful one-of-a-kind garments were designed by Leyla Salvade (pictured). Using fine French silks and empty bullet casings found in the dessert of Phoenix, Arizona, Leyla illustrates an inspiration and tells the story of "The Rise and Fall of a Phoenix" -- influenced by the biblical story of the Tower of Babel.

Leyla is a multifaceted artist who recently graduated from Central Saint Martin's College in London, with a degree in Fashion Textiles.  Currently, Leyla is preparing to embark on her next adventure in Los Angeles, CA where she will further her creative talents at FIDM and pursue a career in Event Planning and Public Relations.  To see more of Leyla's work and keep up with her as she begins her latest journey visit her website: http://www.leylasalvade.com.

Thank you Leyla for sharing your work and story with us!

PHOTOGRAPHY BY DAVID BYUN

This David Byun editorial for W Asia makes a statement about the detrimental effects of environmental conscienceless.  The model, Viktoriya Sansonkina carries a lovely yellow rose amongst the grim backdrop in each shot.  The dainty fashion and delicate rose are a stark contrast to the dark grungy setting illustrating

Franz Ackermann

Mental Map: Evasion V
1996 - Acrylic on Canvas

These works are by contemporary German painter, Franz Ackermann.  Ackermann's art is marked by
bright vibrant color schemes and illustrative abstractions -- a sort of ironic contrast to the underlying cynism he conveys about globalisation and chaos in the modern world. The paintings belong to the Saatchi Gallery in London and are not currenly for sale.
